A Puppet A Day
one of my recent projects with College humor,
Ever Wonder What it’s Like to be Morgan Freeman?
How we imagine Morgan Freeman spends his lunch break on a movie set.
nerdchild asked: Hello! I just wanted to say, I love your puppets! I enjoy experimenting with puppet making at home, and I have two specific questions. the first question is, do you have a good glue you use for gluing foam? So far everything I've tried is either too stiff, melts the foam, or doesn't stick. The second question I have is also glue related. I made a rod puppet recently and for the life of me I can't get the hand (painted Sculpey) to stick to the rod (coat hanger). Do you have any suggestions?
hello Nerdchild,
glad you like my work, , the glue i use (as well as most puppet builders) for foam rubber is a contact cement called barge, its rather toxic and should only be used in a well ventilated situation,
as for sculpey , i think you need to bake the rod into the hand , i don’t have much experience working with that material though.
THE MAGIC FISH , Built for the Puppetworks Theatre Production of “THE THREE WISHES” this is a Hand puppet show, that will be performed through out the year , in addition to the regular Marrionette shows, The Three wishes opnes this comming weekend, (JUNE 16-18 2012) @ Puppetworks.org
Custom Built Portrait puppet .
Not every puppet i build is for a video, or Theatre project. My most recent client wanted something totally original , she had been inspired by a gift she saw at a recent birthday party for a friend and decided she wanted to do something simliar , after contacting a few other puppet builders, she an i came to a agreement and work began on this puppet. Caricaturesand portrait puppets are difficult, your walking a fine line, trying to strike the right balance between the real person, the caricatue, and the style , you dont want to insult the person, but you need to find enough visual cues so that everyone knows who the puppet is supposed to be, Happy to report that all involved were thrilled with the end result, Nothing better than a happy and satisfied client . especially when they take the time to sned you a note after the event!
